What is Graphite Powder? is There Any Danger?

1. Understand graphite powder

Graphite powder is soft and dark gray; it has a greasy feel and stains the paper. The hardness is 1 to 2, and can increase to 3 to 5 with the increase of impurities in the vertical direction. Specific gravity is 1.9 to 2.3. Under the condition of isolating oxygen, its melting point is above 3000 ℃, which is one of the most high temperature resistant minerals. The chemical properties of graphite powder are relatively stable at room temperature, insoluble in water, dilute acid, dilute alkali and organic solvent; the material has high temperature resistance and electrical conductivity, and can be used as refractory material, conductive material, wear-resistant lubricating material. Reacts with oxygen at different high temperatures to form carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide; among halogens, only fluorine can react directly with elemental carbon; graphite powder is more easily oxidized by acid under heating; at high temperatures, it can also react with many metals to form metal carbonization, which can smelt metal at high temperature.

Graphite powder also prevents boiler scaling. Relevant tests show that adding a certain amount of graphite powder (about 4 to 5 grams per ton of water) can prevent scaling on the boiler surface. In addition, graphite powder can be used in metal chimneys, roofs, bridges and pipes to avoid corrosion and rust. Graphite powder can be used as pencil lead, pigment and polish. Graphite powder is specially processed to make various unique materials for use in relevant industrial sectors.

2. Is graphite powder dangerous?

Graphite powder is a battery cathode material. The technological process of graphite powder is that the ore is blasted and then sent to a stone crusher by a trolley for crushing, and then enters a ball mill for flotation. The water is poured into the water sprayer to become the water spray material, and the water spray material is the finished graphite product. Pour the dry cloth into the drying workshop, bag it and dry it, that is, the average carbon content of the finished graphite powder is 90%. It is used to make pencil leads, graphite electrodes for batteries and lubricants for cable cars. Graphite is soft and greasy. Excellent electrical conductivity. Color gray or steel gray, with metallic luster, lubricating effect.

Graphite powder itself is not harmful. However, if you are in a graphite powder environment for a long time, it should be noted that because the graphite powder particles are very small, the graphite dust will enter the lungs through the human respiratory tract and cause harm to the human body. Wear a wet face mask to protect it. The graphite oil mixed with graphite powder and oil will only have a pungent odor at high temperature, and as long as the protection and protective measures are in place, it will not cause harm to the human body.
