US Department of Energy adds natural graphite to list of critical materials

According to the Mining.com website, metals or minerals on the U.S. Department of Energy's Critical Materials List will receive tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.

The final list includes electrical steel, copper, aluminium, magnesium, nickel, cobalt, lithium, praseodymium, neodymium, dysprosium, terbium, gallium, platinum, iridium, fluorine, natural graphite, silicon and silicon carbide.

According to Alejandro Moreno, managing director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, "As our country continues to transition to a clean energy economy, it is our responsibility to secure the supply chain of critical materials that underpin the development of technologies for clean energy production, transmission, storage, and end-use, including solar panels, turbine wind turbines, power electronics, lighting and electric vehicles."
